Chris Cortez, guitarist, vocalist, band leader, and record label owner has made Houston his home after leaving Louisiana in 2005 following hurricane Katrina.
An international recording artist with a wide range of musical interests. Jazziz magazine lists him among the top 100 jazz guitarists in the world, yet he has also performed with Slash and Bo Diddley. He's been featured in international journals such as Downbeat magazine, Jazziz magazine, Jazz Times, Le Jazz Hot Paris, etc... He's performed in Paris, France, Montreau, Switzerland, New Orleans, New York, Los Angeles, and all over the United States.
Chris' 5 solo CDs have sold thousands, and received rave reviews and extensive radio play. His discography includes over 20 CDs as a leader, sideman, or producer.
Some of Chris' credits include performances with a very wide range of diverse performers including: The Coasters, Herbie Mann, Bo Diddley, and Slash. He's opened for Ray Charles, James Brown, Miles Davis, and Manhattan Transfer.
A typical performance includes a variety of musical styles including blues, reggae, samba, funk, pop, folk, classic rock, motown, and yes... jazz. Artfully blended together to appeal to a wide range of listeners and age groups.

Recording Studio
Chris owns and operates a full service recording studio which is available to artists from many different genres of music. Chris's record label, Blue Bamboo Music, features the cream of Houston's jazz community, and artists from throughout the world, all of whom drop in to perform with Chris Cortez and Friends on a regular basis. The talented trio can be expanded to accomodate up to eight musicians. Chris also leads Aunt Nasty, a 5 piece mainstream jam band, featuring contemporary dance music.
