Guitarist/vocalist Chris Cortez CD Awakenings was among the top 50 grammy entries in 2007 for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Instrumental Jazz solo.
Chris is music director at Crabby Daddy Seafood and Steakhouse in the Woodlands, TX. He leads his quartet at a weekly steady engagement which he has enjoyed for almost 4 years since moving to the Houston area post Hurricane Katrina.
The Cortez Quartet also appears at many Houston venues including Cezanne's, Sambuca, and the annual Kemah Jazz Festival.
Chris teaches privately, runs a full service recording studio, and his record label Blue Bamboo Music.
Through the label he has been executive producer for several releases featuring: Woody Witt, Mike Wheeler, Joe LoCascio, Mark Piszczek, and Harvie S. Many new releases are planned for the future, and will be available at the Blue Bamboo Music website for immediate download. So far, the label's releases all have one thing in common. They were all unanimously critically acclaimed by the jazz press.
